Considering the political rhetoric of the last days, the CEC, based on its responsibility and in order to organize, conduct and administer parliamentary elections of April 25, 2021, in accordance with the highest standards of free and fair elections, appeals to all political actors to show maturity and equilibrium in their behavior and their political and electoral messages.
They should not forget that the behavior and rhetoric of political leaders and representatives directly leads to the infringement of election standards in our country.
Political parties are a core component of the democratic system in the country and a fundamental tool for the expression of the political will of the citizens and as such, they have the obligation and responsibility towards the citizens to behave with maturity and accountability.
The harsh language and conflictual stance does not serve to the interest of the citizens to hold free, fair and democratic elections, which is a pre- requisite for the European integration of Albania.
We are on the eve of election campaign, therefore the candidates and political parties should respect their opponents.
The elections are for the citizens and the election campaign is the primary / central factor in shaping the opinion of the voters, therefore we should respect the citizens’ right to form their opinion in an independent way and uninfluenced, and respect their right to have calm, free and democratic elections.
In addition, in order to be in compliance with the standards of fair elections, the CEC would like to appeal to all those public officials who are running in April 25,2021 elections, to separate their engagement as a candidate for MP from their position as head of the respective state institution.
Holding a contest which is honest, with equal terms, and in compliance with democratic standards, serves to the democratic development of the country.
