Today, the Central Election Commission (CEC) celebrated World Election Day, an event held every first Thursday of February. This day represents an important opportunity to increase awareness and civic participation in democratic processes, with a special focus on voters who face barriers to their inclusion, such as young people, people with disabilities, underrepresented women, minorities and other groups that have less voice in social and political life.
To mark this day, the CEC organized a special event at the “Sami Frashëri” High School in Tirana, attended by the school’s graduates, most of whom will be first-time voters in the elections for the Albanian Parliament on 11 May 2025.
During the event, an open discussion took place on the right and importance of voting, as well as the necessity of active participation in electoral processes. Special attention was paid to the role of young people not only as voters, but also as active contributors to the administration of elections, through their engagement as operators of electronic identification, voting and electronic counting devices.
An important part of the activity was the simulation of the electronic voting process, where high school graduates had the opportunity to test voting and counting devices, gaining practical experience and a deeper understanding of the functioning of technology in elections.
In conclusion, the CEC distributed certificates of participation to all young people who participated in this activity, appreciating their engagement and encouraging a broader culture of civic responsibility.
The Central Election Commission remains committed to promoting the participation of all voters, especially young people, by ensuring that every voice is heard and every vote is counted, in order to strengthen democracy and electoral transparency.
