The State Election Commissioner, Mr. Ilirjan Celibashi, Meets with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Olsian Çela
Today, the State Election Commissioner, Mr. Ilirjan Celibashi, held a working meeting with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Olsian Çela. The discussions focused on enhancing inter-institutional cooperation to ensure a fair, free, and law-abiding electoral process.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed on a new, more proactive approach to investigating and prosecuting violations of electoral law, particularly those related to criminal offenses under the jurisdiction of the Prosecutor’s Office during the electoral process. This commitment aims to prevent and penalize any attempt to undermine the integrity of the elections.
To strengthen oversight and enable swift intervention in cases of electoral irregularities, the Central Election Commission (CEC) and the Prosecutor General’s Office will extend their cooperation to include the State Police across the entire territory of the country.
Furthermore, the two institutions will implement an institutional coordination protocol, which will designate contact persons from the Prosecutor General’s Office to be stationed at the CEC. These representatives will have real-time access to information from every polling station.
The Prosecutor General informed the State Election Commissioner that a series of measures are being planned to organize prosecutorial structures that will handle electoral matters in collaboration with the State Police, ensuring a timely response to any illegal activities that could jeopardize the elections.
The institutional coordination protocol for the electoral process will ensure the rapid and professional exchange of information, as well as close cooperation in addressing violations of electoral law.
The State Election Commissioner and the Prosecutor General reaffirmed their full commitment to guaranteeing a credible electoral process, safeguarded against any form of interference or abuse.
