State Election Commissioner, Mr. Ilirjan Celibashi and the Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Lealba Pelinku presented the findings of the post-election verification conducted by the CEC.
The post-election verification consisted in the examination of ballot papers and election materials in 10% of the Voting Centers, used in the elections of April 25, 2021.
Part of the post-election verification were also the 32 voting centers of the CEAZ 40 (unit 10) Tirana, where the pilot project of electronic voting and counting was implemented, as well as the cross-checking of fingerprint data obtained from the electronic voter identification process.
The Commissioner pointed out that the CEC is conducting an assessment of irregularities identified by this verification process. He added that in the cases identified in the electronic identification, fingerprinting related to more than one identification document, or in more than one polling station will have a more in-depth verification by the CEC and these issues should be addressed to the competent bodies.
Celibashi underlined that the technology used in the elections of April 25, 2021 proved to be successful.
Deputy Commissioner Pelinku pointed out that the implementation of technology worked and was realized successfully, but it cannot avoid violations of the Electoral Code outside the polling station.
The post-election verification process aimed not only the auditing of the technology used in the elections, but also at verifying the regularity and accuracy of the election administration’s activity throughout the administration of the election process.
