Commissioner Celibashi-citizens: Participate in Voting!

04/03/2022 | News

State Election Commissioner, Mr. Ilirjan Celibashi talks to journalists on the preparations for the election process on March 6, 2022. Commissioner Celibashi  conveyed messages and gave an updated on preparations for mayoral by-elections

Validity of identification documents

The government has approved a normative act, which extends the deadline for the validity of identification documents for voters in the 6 municipalities of Shkodra, Vora, Durres, Dibra, Rrogozhina, Lushnja, where the by-elections will take place. Citizens whose identification document expired or expires on March 6, 2022, will not be prevented from voting. The CEC addressed the concerns raised by some electoral subjects but also by some civil society organizations, requesting the Government to consider the option of extending the validity of identification documents, a request which was taken into consideration.

Distribution of the electoral material base

We are in the final phase of preparations for these elections, we have distributed the materials in almost all CEAZs, with the exception of CEAZ no. 2 in Shkodra, where the material base will be delivered  today. CEAZs are in the process of finalizing the nomination of VCC members. The parties have already an indisputable right to submit proposals for VCC members two or three days before the election date to change the commissioners. I believe that within 24 hours, all the commissioners will be present because their presence is directly related to the distribution of the materials from the CEAZs to the VCCs.

The CEC will take all measures to ensure that there are no issues in the administration of electoral process, issues related to the will of the commissioners or subjects participating in this contest.

Election offences

The CEC will pay increased attention to some negative phenomena, considered as criminal offences in the last elections. Anyone who will try to engage in the process of vote-buying or even influencing the will of the citizens, will face consequences. If the CEC identifies individuals who are involved in actions that violate electoral integrity, they will face legal consequences. In this context, I invite all citizens, civil society, media or representatives of political entities to immediately denounce such violations to the competent bodies.

Technology in elections

As you have already been informed, even during these elections, the electronic identification of voters will apply; also in every voting center and in the municipality of Vora, electronic voting will take place. I want to reiterate that it is a process, which fully guarantees 100% security of the vote. Therefore, I invite all citizens of Vora to participate in the voting.

This appeal goes to voters of 5 other municipalities: PARTICIPATE IN VOTING!

The CEC has prepared the election process pursuant to all the provisions of the Electoral Code
