The State Election Commissioner, Mr. Ilirjan Celibashi, meet today the British Ambassador in Tirana, Mr. Nicholas Abbott, with whom he held an open conversation on the CEC’s preparations for the Elections for the Assembly of Albania on May 11, 2025.
After discussing the developments and political environment in this pre-election period, they delved into the topic of voting from abroad and the challenges of organizing this process.
During the meeting, the Commissioner and the Ambassador shared their views and efforts on important issues, such as the measures taken to prevent vote buying, avoiding the abuse of state resources in the campaign and increasing the role of other institutions in the fight against electoral crimes. They also discussed the CEC’s compliance with OSCE/ODIHR recommendations and the need for full implementation of recommendations requiring legislative intervention by the Assembly.
They discussed in detail the innovations of the Financial Reporting Platform and the promotion of the oversight role of civil society on election financing.
The CEC and Ambassador Abbott agreed on the unique importance of the upcoming electoral process related to Albania’s full membership in the EU.
Commissioner Celibashi thanked the Ambassador of the United Kingdom for his cooperation and strong support for the CEC and the continuation of joint initiatives to strengthen the institution.
