Today in the premises of the Cultural Center in the city of Kukës, the electronic voter identification device was demonstrated, which will be used in April 25, 2021 elections.
In order to identify the voters, the Electronic Voter Identification System (SEIV) will be implemented and Electronic Identification Device (IEP) will be used, installed in every voting center, which will ensure the accurate identification of voters, based on the electronic register of voters stored in the device.
In order to show how the device will operate on election day, a voting process was simulated.
Deputy Commissioner Lealba Pelinku stated that “Identification is simple for the citizens and is completed in a short time. Electronic identification avoids multiple voting and does not allow the voting in a center where the citizen is not registered.
“The two demonstrations carried out so far have shown the efficient functioning of the device.” Electronic voter identification aims to prevent multiple voting and vote impersonation.
On election day, the voter will appear at his voting center with an ID card or biometric passport, to be identified through the PEI device, where in addition to the identification document he will also leave dactyloscopic traces (fingerprints), which will be used to identify cases of illegal voting.
Representatives of political parties, as well as representatives of the media also joined the event and attended the demonstration of the functionality of the device. The demonstration of the functioning of PEI will also take place in Fier city in the coming week.
