The Central Elections Commission held a consultative (virtual) meeting regarding the draft act on the criteria of registration of voters from abroad for parliamentary elections.
Present in the meeting were representatives of the Albanian Diaspora, the political parties, the General Directorate of the Civil Status Office, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and civil society.
The draft act on the criteria of voters from abroad was shared with the stakeholders for consultation in July and the focus of the meeting was to exchange the ideas and suggestions on different aspects of the draft. The State Election Commissioner Mr.Ilirjan Celibashi stated that the goal of the CEC was to build a draft which is in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Code and adapted in the best possible way to a suitable solution. The Commissioner underlined that the issues raised by the actors involved in the process, will be reflected in the draft act.
The working group established in the CEC, composed of the representatives of the CEC, representatives of the Civil Status Office, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and Albanian Diaspora, will continue its work with the draft of the regulatory framework for the voting from abroad within September 2023.
