British Government asseses support given to CEC for voters’ education and political party financing oversight

The CEC welcomed a delegation from the United Kingdom, composed of Mr. Ben Merrick, Director of the Joint Funds Unit (JFU), Mr. Robyn Goldsmith, Head of the Western Balkans Programme Unit (WPBU), Ms. Lael Nyanteh, Adviser on Migration Issues (JFU), Mr. Stephen Mallett, Chief of Finance (JFU), Ms. Alec Harbutt, Treasury Department, and Ms. Freya Sorrell, Senior Policy Adviser – National Security Strategy and Expenditures, Treasury.

The purpose of the meeting was to assess the support provided by the British Government to the Central Election Commission regarding electoral education programs and oversight of political party financing during the election campaign.

The Chairperson of the Regulatory Commission, Ms. Ilirjana Nano, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support of the British government. She emphasized the importance this support has had in educating voters and increasing transparency in the financing of political parties.

Additionally, the meeting discussed the continuation of the United Kingdom’s support for the upcoming elections for the Albanian Parliament to be held in 2025.
